Queer Ecologies, for Words Needed
Single Channel video, 2014
Queer Ecologies is a single channel text based collaborative video by Maya Suess and Atom Cianfarani. Queer Ecologies uses stop motion animation and text to render questions about the current state of human kind, by posing questions to a long revered pseudo-mystical being - a mushroom.
Queer Ecologies was made as part of Words Needed, a curatorial concept produced for the opening weekend of the European Capital of Culture 2014, in Umeå, Sweden. Exhibited in January 2014, four single channel videos were projected onto large snow walls throughout the city.
Artist Anna Linder curated Words Needed by inviting other artists to the project. Together they create a collective feeling that interprets and describes a possible and utopian world.
